In an era defined by intensifying climate disruptions, the resilience of Europe’s infrastructure has never been more paramount. Extreme weather, shifting landscapes and ecological changes threaten the assets that uphold economic flows, human well-being and social stability across the continent. Yet this enormous challenge is also a historic opportunity to harmonise integration with nature itself. This is the vision of NATURE-DEMO to create, validate, scale and sustain Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for climate-resilience/proofing vulnerable infrastructure. NATURE-DEMO will implement a comprehensive suite of green, blue, and hybrid NbS together at a large scale across five regions within the Alpine biogeographic area and include interconnected systems facing multiple climate hazards.
NATURE-DEMO brings expertise from top six industrial partners, eight academic organisations, four research organisations, four non-profit organisations and the Austrian Federal Ministry as an Associated PartnerThe project will connect to the European overarching initiatives and collaborate with them, aiming to increase its scientific, environmental, and socio-economic impacts. The project kick-off meeting was successfully held in Liberec, Czech Republic, from May 14-16. The Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (IZIIS) takes part in this transformative initiative as a partner institution.
