Why shake it up course is important?
The primary objectives of this topic is to share basic knowledge in the field of seismic performance, assessment and retrofitting of building structures. It covers reinforced concrete, masonry structures, interaction between soil and structure, hazard analysis and risk.
Participants will be familiarized with the design principles of buildings ‘structural system in seismic prone regions with accent on application of Eurocodes 2 and 8 in the design process.
Additional focus is given to seismic assessment and retrofitting of building structures seen through review of the advanced methods and implementation of the in-house developed IZIIS methodology on selected case-studies.
Participants will also learn of IZIIS’s experience in post-earthquake usability and damage assessment of building structures.
In the subject of experimental testing methods, the students will gain hands-on experience with shaking table tests, in situ tests, and the analysis of forced and ambient vibrations.
The seismic designing of engineering structures is of importance also. Firstly, the basic principles for structural analysis in earthquake engineering will be covered. Students will learn how to apply the seismic actions on structures using simplified and advanced methods derived from fundamental structural dynamics concepts. They will be able to identify the suitable lateral resisting systems which can provide effective earthquake resistance and understand the concepts of capacity design and failure mode control and their deployment in modern codes of practice. Modeling of nonlinearity in structures using different approaches. The practical examples will be given for steel frame structures, bridges and dams.
Summing up, the idea of Shake It Up course is of great importance for the engineering to be able to deal with different situations related to earthquakes.
