Radmila Salic Makreska is an associate professor at the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (IZIIS) under Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. Currently, she leads the Department for Risk, Disaster Management, and Strategic Planning. In the frame of master’s studies, she teaches three subjects: “Basics of Seismic Risk” (main), “Engineering Seismology”, and “Project Planning and Management”. Additionally, in doctoral studies, she teaches four subjects: “Seismic Risk” (Main), “Seismic Hazard” (Main), “Fundamentals of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology”, and “Strong Motion Seismology and Seismic Microzoning”. Her specific area of expertise is seismic hazard, and she completed her PhD research in this field in 2015 as a DAAD/SEEFORM scholar.
Since 2003, she has actively participated in numerous scientific and professional projects. Notable assignments are the NATO SpS-984374 Project for Harmonization of Seismic Hazard Maps for the Western Balkan Countries (2012-2015, Partner Country Director) and the project for the Assessment of Seismic Hazard and Risk for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (2010-2013, Project Leader). Salic Makreska has also been a key contributor to DG-ECHO projects, such as Infra-NAT (783298-INFRA-NAT-UCPM-2017-PP-AG) for Increased Resilience of Critical Infrastructure to Natural and Human-Induced Hazards (2018-2019), CRISIS (101004830-CRISIS-UCPM-2020-PP-AG) for Comprehensive Risk Assessment of Basic Services and Transport Infrastructure (2020-2022), L2BR (101017950-L2BR-UCPM-2020-KN-AG) Learn to be Resilient (2021-2022), and ISRA (101101255-ISRA-UCPM-2022-PP) for Integrative Strengthening of Seismic Risk Awareness (2022-2024). Part of her professional activities are also linked to projects for various international organizations and institutions such as UNDP, WHO, WB, EBRD, JICA, and others. She is also one of the authors of the Seismic Zoning Maps developed for the National Annex to Eurocode 8 (2016).
Throughout her scientific and professional career, she has engaged in various training programs and study visits to institutions in different countries, including ETHZ-Zurich, Switzerland (2006), Chania, Greece (2008), Bovec, Slovenia (2008), L’Aquila, Italy (2009), GFZ-Potsdam, Germany (2009), METU-Ankara, Turkey (2015), JICA-Kobe, Japan (2017), and Eucentre, Pavia, Italy (2019).
She is a member of several national crisis and disaster management bodies established under government institutions, as well as several professional and scientific associations. Her contributions to the field are evident through her publication record, which includes over 60 scientific papers presented at national and international conferences, more than 120 professional reports, and 15 publications in reputable journals. She has received three awards for notable achievements in civil engineering practice from the Macedonian Association of Structural Engineers in 2015 and 2017.
Starting in October 2023, she has been elected as an ExeCom member of the European Facilities for Earthquake Hazard and Risk (EFEHR).
