Dr. Goran Chapragoski, grad. civil eng. is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology – IZIIS, Skopje, R. N. Macedonia in the department of Building structures and Materials: Design, Analysis and Testing. He started his bachelor studies in the academic year 2008/09 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Skopje (module: structural engineering) and graduated in September 2012. He continued his studies doing master program at IZIIS-UKIM, in the academic year 2012/13. During his studies (September 2013-February 2014) he has successfully completed a one-semester Erasmus+ exchange at the University Federico II in Naples, Italy. He earned a MSc degree in Earthquake Engineering in February 2016 after successfully passing the exams with an average grade of 9.8/10 and defending his master thesis titled as “Repair and strengthening of existing buildings using innovative building materials”. Also, he earned a Ph.D. degree in Earthquake Engineering in October 2023 after defending his doctoral thesis titled “Seismic assessment and retrofitting of RC building structures using innovative building materials “. He started his professional work engagement in IZIIS in 2016 along with the enrolment in the master program, first as a Young Researcher, and then, from December 2019, as a Research Assistant. In February 2023, he began his role as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology. During his work engagement in IZIIS, he has taken a part in several scientific-research projects noteworthy among which are the Bilateral scientific project between the R. Macedonia and People’s Republic of China (2018-2019): Study on Supporting Structures for Earthquake Emergency Rescue, as well as Quasi-static experimental investigations of reinforced concrete columns using FRP materials (2019). He is involved in the work of the professional commission team for issuing documents for projected and performed degree of mechanical resistance, stability, and seismic protection of buildings in the Republic of Macedonia. He participated in the production of original instructional materials for the control of project documentation done by application of the Eurocodes. He is actively involved in the professional applicative activities of IZIIS in the field of design of earthquake-resistant structures, repair and strengthening of reinforced concrete structures using traditional and innovative materials, as well as structural damage assessment. He has published as author or co-author multiple papers in the field of earthquake engineering, in journals with impact factor, as well as conference proceedings with an international editorial board. Has participated in few seminars, professional trainings, and schools, like: Eurocodes Balkan Summer School (July 2021), organized by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), Bauhaus Summer School (04th -16th August)-Forecast Engineering: From past design to future decisions, Weimar, Germany-Attended course: Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Engineering Design, as well as Split summer school (31st August -4th September 2020)-Attended course: BIM for structural design, Eurocodes Balkan Summer School (July 2021) organized by JRC European commission, as well as Ph.D. Advanced Training Course: Applied and computational mathematics in engineering application, 6th – 10th March, 2023, Aveiro, Portugal. He is a member of the Association for Earthquake Engineering MAEE, the European Association for Earthquake Engineers, Macedonian Association of Structural Engineers MASE as well as the Macedonian Chamber of Certified Architects and Certified Engineers of the Republic of Macedonia.
