Dr. Angela Poposka is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. She is currently part of the Department for Dynamic Testing and Informatics, where she works on experimental testing of dynamic and quasi-static responses of structures, both in the laboratory and in the field.
She graduated as a structural engineer in 2014 from the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Skopje and subsequently pursued her master’s studies at the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology. As part of her master’s program, she successfully completed a one-semester international exchange at the University of Naples Federico II in Italy, within the Department of “Structures for Engineering and Architecture”. In 2018, she earned her master’s degree in earthquake engineering, defending a thesis titled “Analysis of the Effect of Earthquake and Wind as Dynamic Loads on Structures.” In the same year, she enrolled in a PhD program, focusing her research on self-centering concentrically braced steel structures, both with and without supplemental damping. As part of her doctoral studies, she spent four months as a visiting researcher at Imperial College London under supervision of prof. Ahmed Elghazouli, supported by the British Scholarship Trust, and five months at the University of Patras under supervision of prof. Theodoros Karavasilis, funded by the Erasmus+ Program. In 2024, she successfully defended her PhD with a dissertation titled “Enhanced self-centering braced steel frames in seismic prone regions” under the supervision of Prof. Zoran Rakicevic.
Dr. Poposka has been also actively involved in applicative engineering projects, including the determination of dynamic characteristics and seismic response of structures, seismic qualification of non-structural elements and electrical equipment, non-destructive testing, and more. Since 2019, she has also participated in several scientific research projects, including:
- EMERGE – Rapid Multi-Risk Needs Evaluation and Planning Platform (2025–2027; Ref: 101193586 — EMERGE — UCPM-2024-KAPP)
- ERIES – Engineering Research Infrastructures for European Synergies (2022–2026)
- ISRA – Integrative Strengthening of Seismic Risk Awareness (2022–2024)
- H2020 SERA – Seismology and Earthquake Engineering Research Infrastructure Alliance for Europe (2017–2020; Grant No. 730900)
Throughout her career, she has participated in numerous international conferences, including European and World Conferences on Earthquake Engineering, and has completed several specialized training programs, such as Performance-Based Earthquake Engineering and Seismic Isolation and Dissipation at IUSS Pavia, Italy.
Dr. Poposka is the author or co-author of over 40 scientific papers presented at national and international conferences, as well as more than 50 professional reports. She has received several scholarships, including those for graduate and postgraduate tuition, talented students, and international research exchanges. In 2019, she received the Voya Kondic Prize for best research conducted during her study visit to the UK, supported by the British Scholarship Trust.
She is a member of the Macedonian Association of Earthquake Engineering (MAEE) and the Chamber of Certified Architects and Engineers of the Republic of North Macedonia.
