Borjan Petreski (1991) is research assistant at the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (IZIIS) in Skopje with a demonstrated history of working in the civil engineering industry. He obtained the title Master of Science (MSc) and Diploma of Imperial College (DIC) in 2015 in the field of Earthquake Engineering as part of the Advanced Structural Engineering course at Imperial College London, UK. His MSc thesis is titled Improved Assessment and Design Approaches for Steel Moment Frames under Realistic Earthquake Loading. Previously, he gained the title Bachelor of Science (BSc) in civil engineering with a graduation project for cable-stayed roof structure of a sports hall from the Civil Engineering Faculty in Skopje in 2014. Currently, Borjan is scholarship holder at IZIIS for doctoral studies, while his past scholarships include: Ministry of Education and Science of Republic of North Macedonia for excellent students enrolled at one of the top 100 universities in the world and the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Skopje for the top 5 students. He possesses skills in aseismic design of reinforced concrete and steel structures, finite element analysis and nonlinear analysis of structures. Presently, he is focused on conducting research individually and collaborating in research teams, publishing papers and presenting research at international conferences, supervising design projects on weekly basis and performing seismic assessment of existing structures. Since 2016, he actively participates in several scientific research and applicative projects, among which are the European projects: INFRANAT–Increased Resilience of Critical Infrastructure to Natural and Human-Induced Hazards (2018-2019), SERA – Seismology and Earthquake Engineering Research Infrastructure Alliance for Europe (2018-2021) and CRISIS – Comprehensive Risk Assessment of Basic Services and Transport Infrastructure (2020-2022). During his professional career, he participated in several courses and workshops in: Weimar, Germany (2017), Pavia, Italy (2019) and JRC Ispra, Italy (2021 – online). He is involved in the work of professional commissions and working groups related to elaboration of opinions about designed and as-built level of mechanical resistance, stability and seismic protection of structures in the Republic of North Macedonia on daily basis, as well as seismic assessment of existing structures. He has published more than 15 scientific papers at international conferences and journals and more than 100 reports. His papers were part of more than 10 international conferences where he presented his work, among which: Porto, Portugal (2017), Thessaloniki, Greece (2018), Copenhagen, Denmark (2019), Zagreb, Croatia (2021) and Sheffield, UK (2021).
