EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING

The study programme “Earthquake Engineering” enables education of candidates in the domains of earthquake engineering and engineering seismology. Upon completion of the studies, the students acquire knowledge in the field of dynamics of structures, modern numerical and experimental methods of analysis, expertise, design and evaluation of seismic resistance of structures as well as adequate education in the field of earthquake engineering for structures of the type of buildings with different structural systems (reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, mixed, etc.) as well as a large number of complex engineering structures belonging to different categories (bridges, dams, special structures, infrastructural systems, etc.). The students acquire knowledge in the field of  reduction and management of risks related to natural disasters and particularly the risk related to earthquakes in the field of geotechnical earthquake engineering  as well as basic knowledge in engineering seismology  that includes definition of seismicity, faults and waves, seismic hazard assessment, seismic source parameters, effect of local conditions, seismic parameters for vulnerability and risk analysis.

The students acquire knowledge of a wide spectrum of specific sub-fields in the earthquake engineering and seismic design field.
