Safety in every second: New generation of seismic monitoring system

Title: Safety in every second: New generation of seismic monitoring system

Start: 01.09.2025г.

End: 31.10.2026г.

Total budget (Ministry of Education and Science + personal participation): 7.502.000 MKD. – Ministry of Education and Science 6.820.000 MKD and (IZIIS) 682.000 MKD

Main objectives of the project:

  • Development of technical infrastructure for monitoring major structures (dams, chimneys, buildings, bridges, cultural-historical monuments) in seismically active areas, through the design and implementation of an innovative system (instruments and software) for measuring strong tremors and ambient vibrations. In addition to measuring strong tremors, the system will enable determination of the dynamic characteristics of structures, which is crucial for monitoring their condition during operation.
  • Practical testing of the system through pilot implementation on five major structures in North Macedonia of different types: a dam, a bridge, a cooling tower, a mine, and a public building with a conventional structural system. The activities will also contribute to strengthening cooperation between research institutions and the public and private sectors.
  • Raising awareness among institutions and the public about the importance of preventive monitoring, as well as providing education and retaining domestic technical personnel through academic-professional mobility and practical application.
